What about Zinc?

In the mineral zinc, what does it actually do for you? How does it help you, does it prevent anything?

And what food actually contains the most Zinc? Least?

On a general and more common basis Zinc is used for Macular degeneration and common cold.

With the common cold it acts a prophylaxis - meaning it helps prevent a cold if you take it on the first signs and symptoms of a cold. However, it only works if the virus is a Rhinovirus (meaning the virus that has infected you is through the nose) - keep in mind that the most common way to get a cold is self-inoculation through the eye... so in terms of a "cold prophylaxis" it's kinda on the down-side

On a more technical/chemisty basis Zinc functions as a
-Cofactor for DNA & RNA synthesis (in other words helps with the making)
-Mobilization of vitamin A from liver
-Enhancement of follicle-stimulating and leutinizing hormones (think menstrual cycle, reproduction - both male and female - etc)

Common foods that have Zinc would be:
-Oysters**
-Meat
-Fish
-Poultry
-Nuts
-Beans
-Fortified foods
-ETC (other foods to a lesser extend)

Hope that answered your question

I used to take Zinc for acne is pretty good and for your inmune system. I used to take the caplets.

zinc is a part of an enzyme which white cells use to kill bugs; in this way it supports the immune system.

oysters are very zinc-rich
