Oysters have a lot...

From the National Institute of Health website: http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/cc/zinc...

What foods provide zinc?
Zinc is found in a wide variety of foods (2). Oysters contain more zinc per serving than any other food, but red meat and poultry provide the majority of zinc in the American diet. Other good food sources include beans, nuts, certain seafood, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products (2,9). Zinc absorption is greater from a diet high in animal protein than a diet rich in plant proteins (2). Phytates, which are found in whole grain breads, cereals, legumes and other products, can decrease zinc absorption (2, 10, 11).(Refer to Table 1: Selected Food Sources of Zinc lists a variety of dietary sources of zinc.)

This website has a better write-up on zinc and food sources.

Your doctor is not the person to ask about what you need for nutrition. It's like asking a plumber what you should do to fix an electrical problem in your service panel. It's always been amazing to me how big money has been able to convince the population of the U.S. that allopathic medicine can provide health information. Amazing. I guess that's why they tell people they are practicing.

It would be interesting to know how your doctor came to the conclusion you need zinc. Did he also tell you that if your stomach pH is not acidic you will not absorb the zinc in your jejunum where zinc, calcium, and magnesium is absorbed? Does he prescribe ANY antacids for people? If he does or you have taken any antacids, you will not be absorbing the zinc, calcium, or magnesium.

Oysters and poultry, are probably the best. Do not rely on fortified foods for any nutrient because that fortification is from synthetic vitamins from non living sources that are bad for you. As an example, Thiamine is derived from coal tar, ascorbic acid from sugar beets (it won't even cure scurvy). Studies have now shown that people who take multivitamin pills usually end up dying earlier than those that don't. It shows about a 5% faster death rate.

Avoid vitamin pills for your zinc. The pills contain magnesium stearate that inhibits the absorption of minerals (up to 80%), is a trans fat, and is also an immune suppressant. Manufacturers put over 5% of the total milligram content of the pill in each pill. 1,000 milligrams = 50 milligrams of the garbage. Additionally, they use talc as a pill release agent and that is a cancer inducer.

Too much zinc is not good either. This is more reason to rely on your food intake because in food, the nutrients are combined with other things that give you better absorption and balanced.

To assure you are getting enough zinc, as well as calcium & magnesium, you should be taking Betaine HCL + an activator after each meal. This will eliminate any "acid reflux" issues or "acid in digestion" issues, assure that you will be absorbing the zinc you eat, and greatly improve your digestion. I suggest you look at taking this in capsule form from the following company: www.healthline.cc (not .com) They do not make their products in pill form for the obvious reasons.

As we age and because we eat cooked foods, our stomach acid production decreases with age. This is why people get weight around the stomach as they age, as well, from the poor digestion.

good luck to you
