Does anyone know some foods that are very high in zinc? |
According to a lot of health books my parents have (I'm only 14) I show signs of a zinc deficiency. The books suggested I take zinc supplements but I would rather eat foods like fruit and veg that have lots of zinc in them. Any suggestions of zinc-rich foods? FOODS HIGH IN ZINC Terri's list is extensive and useful, but it leaves off the two foods which have the highest zinc contents: oysters (6 med oysters contain 16mg zinc), and beef (a 3oz lean shank contains 8.9 mg zinc). Zinc is found in a wide variety of foods Oysters contain more zinc per serving than any other food, but red meat and poultry provide the majority of zinc in a diet. Other good food sources include beans, nuts, certain seafood, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products Zinc absorption is greater from a diet high in animal protein than a diet rich in plant proteins .Phytates, which are found in whole grain breads, cereals, legumes and other products, can decrease zinc absorption Most sea foods are good for zinc so I have been told. Hope this helps. I found a great website all about zinc & zinc rich foods: sunflower seeds are supposed to be good for zinc - you can get them from your local health store. Sprinkle a handful on your breakfast cereal or snack on them like nuts - niiicccceeee. lentils I suggest if you think you have a zinc difficency, you go to the doctor and get your testosterone levels checked. Zinc is very important in making testosterone and a zinc deficiency can delay puberty. Zinc can be found naturally in oysters, beef, turkey, nuts, etc. Ask your doctor if you should take zinc suplements. Don't take more than 100mg a day as too much is not good either. |
