Yellow fever is caused by a virus passed on via mosquitos when they bite. It is caused by an organism called Flavividae. It is cause yellow fever because the destruction of red blood cells and the resulting jaundice make a person appear yellow. Yellow fever occurs only in Africa, South and Central America, and the Caribbean. It can occur in the Southern portions of the US, but it has been pretty rare. It is a type of hemorrhagic fever.

You can get more information on Yellow fever by checking out Wikipedia or the web site for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov)

Malaria is another mosquito borne illness cause by a parasite called Plasmodium. It is endemic in most of the tropical world (Asia, Africa, South and Latin America, etc,) anywhere mosquitos can breed. In Africa, especially Sub-Sarharan areas, it can be the number one killer of children under four during the rainy season (after diarrheal illnesses).
Some malarial patients may also become jaundiced, but this is not a usual finding. Malarial parasites cause anemia on a wide scale.

Yes, in sub saharan africa.. not so much in Europe or US or asia even (well, possibly in southeast asia)...
Id suggest www.cdc.gov. they are the authority on tropical disease numbers.
During my undergraduate career I did a project on D. medinensis, the guinea worm... (a meter long worm that grows inside you, then pops out your leg after it matures for a year... gross huh?!) and the CDC was a great resource for me!

yes, but it is very rare.
read the book Fever 1793, its a GREAT book

As far as I know - its passed by the aedes mosquito and its here in the caribbean (where i live).
