Recurring yeast infections and diabetes??(professional preferably but any advice regardless)?

so i keep getting yeast infections(ive been to the doc. and been treated but keep coming back) i am not overweight, never had an std had blood work done for ALL stds my vaginal discharge has been completely normal with the excpetion of getting treated for yeast infections, my boyfriend doesnt evel ive in the dame state so sex is outta the question so its not being passed back and forth so...? i wear like 95%percent cotton panties, my genetics and family history have no diabetes, i use dove ultra sensitive body wash, i am OVERly hygienic, i dont eat bread, pasta, more than 2 times a week if that, dont drink anything but water, i truly think that my vaginal PH is screwed up big time!!! how do i go about testing for diabetes and has anyone (a WOMAN) had this problem before? i also get oral thrush and little bumps in my lower region that i have had tested and it is jsut yeast so im like a goddamn walking yeast producer!! any advice would be great!!

First, ask for a referral to a specialist. It might NOT be yeast, but a more insidious infection like BV (acts like yeast, but is actually a bacterial infection).

You need to find out what is going on. If your doctor is just treating the symptoms, patting you on your head and sending you on your way with out looking at a cause, it WILL keep coming back.

Are you exhibiting other symptoms of diabetes? Odd body odor, excess sweating, excess thirst and concurrent urination? These would by symptoms, which would need to be checked, but frankly I've not heard of a direct link between diabetes and yeast over-growth.

You DID say you're "overly hygienic." Do you douche? If you do, STOP immediately. This could be causing it, as the practice throws off the natural pH balance and kills off all the "good" bacteria that keep yeast in check.

Sorry I can't help more. DO get in to see a different doctor. There must be a reason for the problem.

I have this problem. I am not diabetic but I have recurring yeast infections.
First, your doctor -- regular or ob/gyn -- can get you a blood test for diabetes.
If, like me, you are not diabetic -- work with your doctor on some kind of preventive treatment plan. Once I took Diflucan once/week for 10 weeks straight -- I was yeast free for about a year after that -- nice. But it eventually came back. And too much Diflucan can be bad for your liver. Right now I am taking a Diflucan about once a month, whether I have symptoms or not, just as a preventative.
Also, buy live acidopholus (sp?) at a health food store like Whole Foods. Live good bacteria can help combat the yeast.
I am sorry for what you are going through. It is hell. You are doing great with your diet -- I do lots of that stuff, too -- but diet alone has not been enough for me. I need the medication but I am trying to use it before I get infected. I don't know if this is a great idea or not but so far it seems to be working. Good luck.

Obviously, go see the dr.

You might just be sensitive to one of your soaps. Instead of Dove (which I react to) find a natural feminine wash.

Don't forget about laundry soap. whatever you use on your underwear is going to be sitting against that area constantly. I can't use several soaps (like era) because it's actually gets painful. If you want to test this one out, try using pantiliners for about 2 weeks after you treated your last yeast infection. If it doesn't recur, it might be the laundry soap, fabric softener, or dryer sheets.

Do you ear any yogurt? This may help.

Where does the diabetes come in? To actually test this, you need to see a doctor. It requires a blood test.
You can check to see if you are spilling either ketones or sugar into your urine. just go to walgreens and buy the test kits, but if these come back positive, go see a doctor.

if you are getting yeast infections more than 2x a year, and your doctor isn't doing anything about it, switch dr's!!!! There may be more going on, and that dr is an idiot if he hasn't done any testing for you.

Good luck!

yeast infections are a very common complication of diabetes. try taking a supplement like acidophilus which will help replace the bioflora in your digestive system...it has live cultures. Acidophilus is also found in yogurts with live cultures.

and like the first answer Diflucan is great...

If your doctor is not looking into the cause for this, go see another one, a gynocologist would be good. Try eating yogure, there is GOOD bacteria in there that could help get things back in balance and kill the yeast. Also, you said you are overly hygenic. Do you douche? If so, STOP NOW!! It is not necessary to do that and you are introducing chemicals into an area that is self cleaning.
If you take antibiotics frequently, that can also cause yeast infections and thrush. Yogurt can help restore the balance if that is the case as well. The advise someone gave about testing to see if it could be your laundry detergent is good to try too. You said that you wear cotton panties but if you are wearing nylons, that can trap in moisture too. So can wearing jeans that are too tight.
I hope this helps you some! Good luck!

A yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of a fungus that normally grows in the vagina.Women with diabetes are especially susceptible to vaginal yeast infections. To prevent yeast infections, wear cotton underwear and avoid using feminine hygiene sprays or powders or bubble-bath products.
