Nuvaring and yeast infections?

I recently started using Nuvaring, I have had it in place for 6 days. I knew that one of the side effects was an increase in yeast infections, and sure enough, I have gotten one. Is it safe to use over the counter yeast infection medications while using the Nuvaring? Will it make Nuvaring not effective?

Some women cannot use oil-based creams to treat yeast infections with the ring in place. The ring is a combined-hormone method of birth control. Oil-based vaginal medicines can increase the levels of hormones released by the ring when it's in place. This may not be good for some women. That's why it's a important to talk to your health care provider about how to treat a yeast infection if you are using the ring. It can also increase the liklihood of the ring slipping out of place.

A woman who thinks she has a yeast infection should visit a clinician for an accurate diagnosis. Your doctor may provide a one-time only pill instead of the vaginal cream. you may not even have to make an appointment--- if you were just in, they may even call in a prescription. Regardless, you should talk with them just to be sure.
