Can the radiation from x-rays make you sterile?

i am a 25 year old male. i have recently had 2 x-rays in a month on a broken finger. the 1st x-ray i was given a lead mat to put across my pelvic area. however at the 2nd x-ray (performed at a different hospital) i was not given anything to protect me from the radiation. is it possible to become sterile after one/two x-rays?

No. Short of radiation therapy for cancer X-rays don't cause sterility.

2 finger x-rays are considerably less radiation that you get from a day at the beach.

If that was the case the majority of the population would be sterile

Not sure darling, but I can till you that my hair used to be really curly until I had an X Ray. Since then it is totally straight without a curl in sight. Maybe it could actually improve your sex life in that case.

Not being flippant, do you really think a hospital would X Ray you without protecting you in the necessary way. Also depends on where they were X Raying, right?

So don't worry about it. You'll still be a dad

don't worry about it, people have x ray "pictures taken all the time with no ill effects.

Its only when you glow in the dark that you should worry

No this will not cause you any problem's. So go out and fertilize away....

The dose of radiation to cause sterility would either be as a result of high dose genital/pelvic radiotherapy (for cancer) or from a nuclear accident/bomb... i guess lots of CT scan might also do it but the radiologists would not expose you to all this. A plain x-ray like you had is a similar dose to one transatlantic flight (as the higher you go the less the atmosphere protects you from the sun's nasty fallout). Believe me not all pilots/cabin crew are jaffa's.

not after one or two no, it would have to be a very large dose to to that after one x-ray and diagnostic x-rays are not large doses
