X-rays and breastfeeding?

I have a dentist appt. coming up and i know it is time for my x-rays, can i get them if i am nursing?

You can have x-rays when you are breastfeeding.

"Myth #1. Nursing mothers cannot breastfeed if they have had X-rays.
Not true! Regular X-rays such as a chest X-ray or dental X-rays do not affect the milk or the baby and the mother may nurse without concern."

"X-rays and scans: Ordinary X-rays do not require a mother to stop breastfeeding even when used with contrast (e.g. IVP). A CT scan, MRI scan, even when used with contrast do not require a mother to stop. A radioactive scan (e.g. lung scan, bone scan) does not require a mother to stop. The only exception is a thyroid scan. However, most of the time the scan does not have to be done."

im not really sure but you should just consult with your dentist to make sure.

External radiation sources such as X-rays do not contaminate the body and thus pose no risk for breastfeeding.

Therefore, it's perfectly safe for you to have those x-rays taken and continue nursing your little one.

Yep.
They will cover you with a shield.
Even if they didn't (but they will) the amount of exposure from dental x-rays is minimal.

Although the dentist and his staff will use their professional judgement as to whether or not you need xrays at your next visit, you can always wait until the following one (in 6 months)if all looks well... and chances are you probably won't be breast-feeding any more by then...

Congrats on the new baby!

:)
