Where/how can I get hold of x-rays? |
I want to get some old x-rays for a project, of any parts of the body - teeth, head, back, hand, anything. Anybody know where I can get them? (preferably free - low-cost). You would have to try ringing up your local hospital, though in the newer departments a high percentage of the results are now stored on computer. They might be happy to supply you with a few, though they would need to be anonymised. in general , you cannot get old X rays from a medical source as there are serious patient confidentiality issues. I would have thought that x-rays of people are only kept for a certain number of years before they're chucked... A dentist of hospital radiographer will be able to tell you. I would also ask at a student hospital - they must test the machines in their training, and they wouldn't want to hang on to them. Contact a local hospital imaging dept. or x-ray tech training program. Most hospitals(Imaging) are more than happy to help with school projects. All refrences concerning patient identification must be removed. Copying a film or printing an hardcopy image from a laser printer is the best option. Most depts are digital and don't use film anymore. You can't remove any identification from images on a cd (that's how we do our copies) Explain the circumstances, at your local hospital's Accident and Emergency Department! They MIGHT be willing to help you! not unless there your x rays If you contact hospitals you will almost certainly run into data protection and confidentiality issues which are likely to make it impossible for you to get hold of them that way. There are, however, many databases of medical images on the intenet; if you just want x-ray images you sjould be able to print of some of them, and you can use printable OHP film for viewing on a lightbox if you want. Otherwise try contacting DuPont Imaging or Kodak; they used to hold large numbers of test and example images. Also try your local medical school, not the hospital. They should hold an archive of images for education, but will probably charge you. |
