Why don't radiologists just develop two sets of x-rays? |
Every time we have ever had x-rays made, whether at the ER or Urgent care, they give us the x-ray to show our primary doctor and then they require us to return it to them. Why not develop two, one for them to keep and one for the primary care physician/specialist? Because x-ray film is VERY expensive and insurance wouldn't cover 2 sets of prints just to have a spare. Although it sounds like a dumb policy it is probably in order to keep costs down. If you were willing to pay for copies then I am sure they would provide an additional set. The facilty that took your x-ray is required by law to store the film for eight years. Most places are going digital now-a-days and your x-ray is stored in a digital format on a long term archive ( for eight years ) . |
