Medical professionals please explain: Basal thumb joint pain appx. 6 months duration. X-rays are normal....?

Now I am being referred to an orthopedic surgeon.. No swelling or redness present. What conditions would an orthopedic surgeon be looking for? If X-rays are normal, but the pain is pretty bad. I am confused. Joint pain is no stranger to me. Off and on in shoulders, fingers, hips. Usually bi-lateral but not always. However this one thumb will not get better. Do I mention to the ortho that I sometimes have pain in other joints?
Rheumatoid factor negative 1 year ago, Positive ANA 10 years ago and negative since then.(Speckled pattern)
Should I mention these at the appointment? Help!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!

any help?

There are many things the orthopedic surgeon could be looking for many other things. I think you should definitely tell the doctor about the other joint pains and mention the Rheumatoid factor info. They may also take an MRI or something else if the x-rays are clear, but sometimes an orthopedic surgeon can see something a regular doctor can't so between the orthopedic surgeon and the radiologist they may find something.
Hope this helps.
