Can I know if I have a fractured rib without getting x-rays?

I was in a car accident exactly a week ago. I was sitting in the passanger seat and felt fine after the accident. The driver had only a burn from the airbag. We both went to the hospital just to be sure we were OK. The doctor warned me that even though nothing is hurting now it always does the next day. I had a neck/headace for the next 3-4 days but its fine now. But my left side hurts just as much as it did after the accident. It's not a constant pain but is very painful went I turn my waist or am in bed and turn over. Could I have fractured a rib? I hate to get x-rays unless I have to. Would I even need to because what can you do for a fractured rib anyways? I'm in the process of having my carpet replaced with hardwood floors and have been tearing up carpet and moving heavy furniture. I can't post pone it and it is too expensive to have the installers tear up the carpet. So this is a very inconvenient time for my rib to hurt like this. Is there anything I can do to ease the pain?

Could be really bad bruising, fracture or break.

I'd suggest you call your doctor and probably get x-rays. I'm thinking that your insurance or the car driver's insurance should pay for your medical seeing as it was part of the accident.

You can take 2 ibuprofin and 1 tylenol to hopefully kill the pain if you want OTC. Unless you want the doctor to prescibe somehting. I had vicoden - wonderful stuff, when I hurt my ribs. It took 6 weeks for the pain to go away.
