Stabbing pain in my wrist?

A few days ago I started to get sharp pains in the side of my right wrist. Very noticable when I'm gripping something or moving my fingers. No numbness or tingling in the fingers, no pain in the palm of my hand - so I've more or less ruled out carpal tunnel.

I haven't suffered any wrist injuries that I'm aware of, and it started very suddenly, progressing more and more sharply. I do work in a job where I need to be on a computer all day - and spend a good amount of time on the computer working on projects after work.

It's especially noticable when I'm using a mouse.

I don't have any of the other symptoms of C.T., and the pain isn't in the correct area of the wrist.

Carpal tunnel is the most likely culprit, but you say you have ruled it out.

Hmm

No trauma. Okay, the two other things that come to mind are Intersection syndrome and de Quervain's Synovitis. Gimme a sec, I'll get you a link.

For de Quervains:

It's a bit wordy for the layman, but is 100% latest word on the topic. I noted when reading the article a reference to volar flexor tenosynovitis, which also could cause this.

For intersection syndrome:

Note the drawing in the middle of the page here, if the pain location matches your own, we have a winner.

In the meantime, try some conservative measures. Take aspirin or Motrin, reduce activitie that cause the pain, maybe get a wrist brace. If this fails, see a doctor.

EDIT: ps, it could still be Carpal Tunnel, but even so, the course of action I recommend is a good conservative approach as well. Good luck

well i dont think u have ruled out Carpal tunnel syndrome. ur job puts u at risk for the same. have u done the tinel and phalens tests ? they are simple tests that u can do sitting at home. see the links below to know the correct way to do these tests.

Well, I wouldn't rule out carple tunnel so fast from what you are describing that is what is sounds like. You don't neccesarily have to have numbness or tingling in your hand. I have had carpal tunnel for five years now in both wrists and I have never had numbness or tingling. Try this website and see if it sounds like what you are experiencing...if so get to a doctor who then can tell you what your options are. Good luck I hope you feel better soon and God Bless!
