Fractured wrist?

I fractured my wrist whilst playing football i am now coming up to 20 weeks in cast. I have not worked for nearly 5 mths, getting right down in the dumps,as i was quite an avid gym user, all the hard work i put in has gone as i am unable to pick up any weights.Looks like im going to need surgery now,so it will be another 4/6 weeks in cast.
This wrist fracture is called a scaphoid injury.

All that for a fractured wrist? Must be pretty bad! I don't know much about fractures and I am not a doctor. But I can tell you I know how you feel about acheiving a certain level of fitness and losing it. I used to work out regularly until I herniated two discs and have been having health problem after health problem, then an unexpected pregnancy at 40. It can be depressing, not feeling fit. Last week I fell 10 feet after a ladder gave out. I landed on my lower back on the aluminum ladder rung and my upper body flung back and my head hit the ladder too. Thank God because it was that or concrete. Anyway, I am experiencing alot of nerve things going on and have a concussion. I need to work and am a single parent of a toddler who does not have a father. I need my hands to type as I am a legal secretary. I had joined a gym finally last March after finally being up to it. I was always working out the years before. Please thank God for life, each day, and take each day at a time. You will be able to do so much after your wrist is healed. Two inches forward or back I could have been paralyzed or dead. It always seems to me, things can ALWAYS be worse and be grateful for the blessings we do have. Right now...as it has been a week, although I am scared of what I will face, I cry everytime I think about how lucky I am as I kiss my 4 yr olds sweet cheeks! God Bless You!

Nonsurgical Treatment
Treatment of scaphoid fractures depends on the location of the break in the bone.

Fractures of the scaphoid at the end near the thumb usually heal in a matter of weeks with proper protection. This part of the bone has a good supply of blood. Most fractures here heal well when they are placed in a cast. The cast will usually be below the elbow. It may or may not include the thumb. The time frame for healing is best determined by X-rays or other imaging studies such as a computed tomography (CT) scan. These imaging studies are used to confirm that the bone has healed.

If the scaphoid is broken in the middle (waist) or at the part closer to the forearm (proximal pole), healing is more difficult. These areas of the scaphoid do not have very good blood supply. This makes it more difficult to heal. If a fracture of the scaphoid in these locations is treated in a cast, it will probably include the thumb. The cast will extend above the elbow.
