How is a dislocated wrist treated?

I think I've dislocated my wrist...I am going to the doctor tomorrow to get it checked out, I just have put a wrap around it to support it. It is very painful when I try to rotate it, and I can't pick up anything heavy or bend my hand forwards or backwards.

If it's not dislocated, the only other thing could be a sprain of the tendon...there was absolutely no swelling, so I don't think it's a fracture. I fractured a wrist before (my other one), and it was sooo swollen.

So I'm just wondering, if it really is dislocated, how do they treat it? Obviously they need to pop it back in place, but how, and how painful is it? And what is the recovery time for an injury like this?

How do you treat a dislocated wrist? If the injury isn't that severe the wrist bones may align themselves properly with time to heal. You should also incorporate rest, ice, compression and elevation to increase the chances of healing.

In extreme cases surgery is called for. The surgeon opens the hand and wrist area to align the bones properly. If there is major damage other devices such as surgical screws may be used.

How you recover from a dislocated wrist? Physical therapy is usually called for, including exercises designed to build up the muscles in the wrist and hand.

they pop it back into place then i belive splint it, or wrap it somehow. then they tell you to take it easy.

Ive dislocated my knee and i ***** walk for a month :( hurt was unbearable

A dislocated wrist is just popped back into the joint and then you wear a wrist guard so you can't mov it.

If you literally CAN'T move it, then it probably is dislocated. Depending on the severity of the dislocation, they will pop it back into place and probably give you a cast. It's not as painful as you might think, unless the doctor decides not to numb the area; even so, it's a brief sort of thing.

Recovery depends on the severity of the injury and your body's own ability to heal, but for a simple dislocated wrist, you may be looking at somewhere around a month, maybe longer. It's been so long since I broke my own wrist, I can't quite remember. Good luck with your situation, all the same.

I've had dislocated wrists as a kid. Yes, they do pop it back into place. It hurts for a second, BUT you wouldn't believe the instant relief! They wrapped it up in a soft bandage and I can't remember how long it took for it to be compleltely better!
Oh, and popping it back in place is a forceful loud pop sound, BUT, as I said before, I remember instant relief from most of the pain!

Good Luck!!!!
