Pain in index finger? |
For the last few days, I've been experiencing dull pain in my right index finger (I'm right handed). It started with pain in the last joint in my finger (furthest from my hand) on the right side of the knuckle. It sort of felt like the knuckle needed to pop. Now, for the past two days the pain is in the right side of the very tip of my finger and only presents when pressure (of any degree) is applied. I do work at a computer all day, but have wrist supports to prevent carpal tunnel. I also have Reynaud's phenomenon with no associated auto-immune disorder. I have no bruise or discoloration and have not injured the finger. I just don't want to go in to see the doc and sound like that terrible joke "It hurts when I do this. . . ." I am also pregnant. I am studying to be a massage therapist and this girl I work with had the same issue. I asked my instructors and they said that you should rub it HARD. Like take a pen or another hard object and scrap the muscles and tendons around the finger going up and down. Then stretch it. Do several times a day. I do this for my coworker and tell her to do it on her own and after 2 days she said it was feeling better and after a week and a half it was gone. she said she had the pain for weeks before and was very grateful. What is happening is the tendon is tightening up due to overuse. You need to stretch it out and relax it. By massaging it hard you are telling it that it is too tight and it needs to relax. |
