What causes wrinkles in some and not in others-I know some people-same age, none of them smoke and some have?

smooth skin and others are full of wrinkles. What is the source, since none of them smoke (I know smoking creates wrinkles).

Several factors which the others have already listed definitely contribute to the problem (sun damage, smoking, genetics, etc.) However, the actual substances in the body that contribute to smooth, healthy looking skin are elastin and collagen. The elastin provides the skin with the elasticity to 'snap back into shape' when it is moved (such as when you pinch the skin on the back of your hand). When you are young, the body is full of elastin and the skin snaps back into shape almost instantaneously. Compare that to the skin of an 80 year old person, and it may take 2-5 seconds to return to its original shape.

Collagen on the other hand, is what provides our skin, face and bodily features with their shape. It is a gelatinous type material that 'fills out' the skin, making it appear plump and smooth. At the extreme end of the spectrum, just for visualization purposes, think of the pictures of the obese persons you have seen on TV that have had all of the cellulite and/or fat removed/sucked out, leaving an excess quantity of skin that is wrinkled and/or hanging, requiring subsequent removal of excess skin. To a lesser degree, the collagen 'fills' our skin out. As we age, smoke or damage our skin in other ways, the collagen dissipates, (which is a natural process with aging) leaving skin that is wrinkled.

sun and genetics

Genetics, overall health, past sun exposure, diet, skin care routine...

Good genes and early exposure to the sun account for lots of aging.

A lot of it also has to do with sun damage. If a person gets a tan every summer year after year they are damaging their skin. A tan is a very bad thing for skin. It's also my personal opinion that smoking and drinking also contribute to the appearance of wrinkles. I don't smoke, I drink very seldom and I haven't had a suntan in over 10 years; I am going to be 34 years old this year, but anytime I go to bars I always get carded, so it must be working in my favor!

mostly its in the genes...if there is a family history of wrinkles not much u can do out side of surgery...my aunt at 72 had very smooth skin and at 57 i have very few...i know people far younger than me that has a lot more wrinkles...also good skin care can help...stay out of the sun without sunscreen....sun makes yr skin look like leather as you age...also tanning beds are hard on yr skin!!

There are a lot of factors, not just age. Smoking can definitely cause wrinkles, especially around the mouth. Some people wrinkle more than others due to hereditary factors. Look at how their mothers and fathers have aged. Also, fair skin tends to wrinkle earlier than dark skin. For example, black people have beautiful skin even into old age! It makes me jealous! The sun is a huge contributing factor for wrinkles. Always use sunscreen! And moisturize like crazy. That always helps!

Genetics, genetics, genetics...
After a lifetime of drinking, smoking and sun worship, at 50 years old I look younger than most others my age. Go figure. I can only thank my parents for this.

stay out of sun and don't smoke, genetics

You have to look for answers yourself- It can be age related- it is not good to ask a lady her age and the other thing is your life style......

Skin care, sun, etc can play a part but the main reason is genetics.
