Licking wounds?

Is it true that licking wounds actually helps them to heal? i wouldn't be able to do it coz i hate the taste of blood, so i was just wondering.

anonymous person - no i didn't watch the wolfman. what's it about?

no but if u let a dog do it it will heal faster their mouths r meant to be antiseptic it does work though

it has an antiseptic effect on wounds for sure.

yeh... if your lickin dirt off them! otherwise a clean and a protective dressing will prob be just as good.

Not for humans but yes for dogs. If a human licked their wounds they could become very sick. We have staph all over our skin and a wound could carry staph and other bacteria and you don't want that in your mouth or digestive tract.

I guess if it's a filthy wound, spit would be better than dirt, but you might not want to lick the would if you have other options - like clean water to rinse it gently with. Also, the type of wound will make a difference. A deep puncture would won't bleed much and probably won't be helped by licking it. Nor will licking a gunshot wound or a severed limb be the kind of help you need.

did you watch the wolfman?

do you habve any idea how many bacteria there are in a humans mouth?if its a major wound id get to a&e instead of lickinf it. apparantly theres more bacteria on your tooth brush than your toilet brush so if that doesnt tell you something i dont know what does
