Superficial skin wounds that won't heal?

I've had acne since I was a teenager which is tolerable.

For the past few days, the wounds from the acne have stopped healing, all they do is get bigger. They don't scab up properly, they just get a semi-dry yellow scab from oozing clear liquid. The top layer of skin around the wounds also seems to peel away as if it's just dieing.

I've had what I can only guess is the flu (runny nose, fever, cough, aches) for the past week, could this be the cause?

The dry yellow scab makes me think that you may have a skin infection called impetigo. This looks like pimples, and can seem to spread across your skin overnight. The pimples don't heal on their own, and will pop and have a yellowish liquid, and then crust over. (and then do it again) If this sounds like what you have, you should get to the doctor. He/she will give you antibiotic cream for your face that will heal it up. It wont go away with regular soap or over the counter acne creams.

Yep! Your immune system is busy putting out the fire with the flu and not worried about the acne right now. Once your immune system is back to normal, it should get better. Take some vitamins and drink LOTS of WATER.

I think it's time to see your doctor. Alot times if wounds don't heal it's an indication that there is a larger problem like a systemic diease, cancer, HIV, blah blah.

I hate to sound so negative but the fact that's it's coupled by flu like sysmptoms raises a flag as well. Of course, you may have a bug and therefore you're wounds aren't healing but it's better to be safe and have it checked out.

Try using Aloe Vera. You can get a plant from your local nursery and they do not take alot of maintenance. They are good for healing burns as well.

Well this doesn't sound good... A good natural healing thing is goldenseal....you can buy it at a health food store...or maybe in a pharmacy....get it in a powder form and try applying it and see how much it heals up....this usually does amazing things....also wild oregano (it is what was called hyssop in the past)...both of these have great natural healing properties. People have used it on very abcessed sores and they have healed up. I recommended this to a relative who couldn't get a sore on her leg to heal, and it healed right up.

There are also great acne products out that work really well. but if this doesn't start healing, I would definitely see a dermatologist...even if it is for just one time....so you won't end up with permanent scarring.

It also sounds like your immune system is not working well ....which might be why they aren't healing well.

You might need an anti-biotic as well.
