Does drinking alcohol clean wounds?

You know in television and movies they show people cleanin out wounds with some sort of alcohol or something. Now this seems quite unbelievable and I may just be too stupid to know it outright, but does that actually work?

Does pouring like drinking alcohol on wounds clean it out? Does it kill bacteria?

Oh i mean like pouring the alcohol(jack, soco, scotch, whatever) would clean it like rubbing alcohol would. I didnt think it would but I figured I'd ask anyways. I watch too many westerns.

It would work with high alcohol dricks, i.e. spirits.

If you tried beer, you might be increase the risk of infection.

If you need to improvise you can use turmeric, it is excellent.

They using rubbing alcohol to clean wounds, not Jack Daniels. Using alcohol to clean wounds is considered abusing alcohol, that's not its purpose :-)

When you say drinkinh alohol you mean alcohol that you drink, not the actual act of drinking alcohol, right? Provided the alcohol content is high enough, yes, it will do.

Alcohol does kill bacteria - but it would have to be high strength - you find alcohol in antibacterial gels and hand wipes.
Don't use drinking alcohol to clean wounds though - that's just in the movies.

Drinking alcohol would probably clean wounds in your mouth. Alcohol kills germs, although I would use something from the drug store...
