White powder applied to wounds?

I was watching an older wilderness show (70s) where a guy was helping a doctor in remote villages in Africa treat the people with wounds. While he was doing this, they were sprinkling a white, powdery substance onto any wounds before bandaging them up.

Anyone have a clue what that powdery substance was/is?

That was probably sulfa.........

Styptic powder

Yes, it was sulpha powder. Very common usage even up through the Korean War.

penicillin powder, its widely used in the orient

Yeah, it was SALT and it hurt like a mother. If I find those jerks........they'll be sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it probably was quinine

cocaine - they'll forget about the wound in no time!

yes it was sulfa, the best way to treat wounds, is keep them clean, take garlic so they wont get infected, after they heal a little put aloe vera on it to heal them, and then are a scab begins to form add vit e, so there wont be a scar so visible.
