Why can't I clean my wounds after knee surgery?

Just interested to know why I can't wash my knee after knee surgery, they instructed me to wait 48 hours before showering and even after 48 hours I have to cover my wounds using water-proof band aids or seran wrap. No big deal, just wondering why?

They don't want the wounds to get infected. They just want it to stay as clean as possible because infections can become very dangerous. I'm guessing they just want your wound to heal a little before you're doing anything. I hope your knee is doing okay!

um you more than likely have stitches or staples that you can't get wet.
