Severe panic attacks and self inflicted wounds PLEASE HELP? |
A friend of mine has been through a lot. The most severe was a bad break up and she gets sever panic attacks in which she inflicts wounds on herself. Recently she had such a bad panic attack that she cut up her upper thigh. She is on medication for depression. she doesnt kno why she gets them. its usually everytime she sees her new boyfriend. i do not kno wat to do? I am shaken up and clueless yet im her best friend. Please help me Tell her parents. If she's feeling bad enough it cut herself what's stopping her from killing herself? I've been there. I have many scars from it. Someone stepped in to help me. I didn't like it at first but then I was very greatful. I was also thinking about commiting suicide. If she is unsafe to the point of cutting up her thighs, then you should probably let her parents know. It's really dangerous and puts her at risk for infection. She needs more help that what you can give her, her family absolutely needs to be involved. The anxiety attacks are bad enough (used to have that issue myself), but the cutting is really worrisome and dangerous. Don't put off talking to her parents any longer. Even if she's mad at you for it, she'll hopefully eventually come to understand that you did it because you cared and didn't want anything bad to happen to her. If she is hurting herself, you have an obligation to tell her parents. She may get mad, but she is going to hurt herself. I have seen pictures of people who were just cutting and cut a little too deep and hit a vein. This is not a good situation. Your friend needs help. The best thing that you can do is to tell her parents so they can get her the help that she needs. It may feel like you are betraying a confidence, but it is in her best interest. Sick people do things like cutting, not healthy people. She needs to get help to be healthy. Which brings up something else. If she is not healthy, you two probably don't have a healthy friendship and she probably doesn't have a healthy relationship with her boyfriend. You need to be a good friend and help her to get help. If your friend is under 18 u need to call her parents so they can help her. If she is not, however, it is her choice unfortunatly, if she refuses to get help the only thing u can do is b there for her and encourage her and help get positive thoughts in her. I suffer from severe panic disorder, i couldnt leave my house for like 3 weeks and was out of work for 31/2 months. I got on celexa and after about 4 weeks of being on it, i can enjoy life again and work a full time job again with no worries. IF the medication for depression is not helping her, she needs to go bac to the doc and get on a different one, she prob needs xanax, ativan, or buspar to help with instant panic attacks, they will calm her down with in 25-45 min. Good luck and hang in there, you are a good friend for caring about her this much to post this, i hope you get all the help u need for her and hope this helped u. God bless you and your best friend. panic attacks DO NOT cause you to hurt yourself. what she has is borderline personality disorder. BPD is very difficult to treat. BPD causes urges to self mutilate. in my case it was burning myself with cigarettes. find someone you can trust (her parents, your parents, a school counsler, or even a priest or minister) and tell them. self mutilation urges DOES NOT go away without help. if you are worried about telling someone and upsetting her try telling her 1st you think she needs help. if that don't work then tell someone. she needs to see a counsler and maybe even observation in the psych ward. that is normally a last resort but self mutilatiors are a danger to themselves and more times then not psychiatric hospitalization is needed. her counsler will decide the best course of treatment just make sure she gets there safely. offer to go along to a session with her ands how support. a lot of times having a friend close by helps |
