Would humans benefit from licking their wounds like animals do?

In my work I get lots of cuts and scratches. As an experiment I began to lick my wounds the way a cat would. It sure SEEMS like it helps. Does anyone know more about this?

I am not sure, but one day I was so frustrated because every time I would feed my infant son he would get a rash around his checks. that would last a few hours. A lady from Indonesia told me that next time I fed him I should lick his face like a cat. I did it and the rash was gone in minutes. I did it 2 times, and that was the end of the rash. MEOW!!

ewwwwww!! thats just plain ol' nasty. what next? you gonna eat your own poop?

Animals posses a special secretion in their saliva that helps their blood to congeal. We humans have this as well, but not to the extent that animals do. In all reality licking our wounds would help, but not very much. Animals mouths have millions less bacteria than ours do, so really you would just be helping an infection along if you do this.

well, um, i'm sorry, i'm gonna have to side with the guy who answered first. That's a little strange. Try using a sterile band-aid, they work well.

Cats and dogs have a chemical in their saliva that helps to maintain their wounds. It's an acid that cleans the wound and promotes healing.
Our mouths are the dirtiest around. In fact a human bite is the worst bite there is because of the bacteria. If you think about it, the GI or gastrointestinal tract starts at our mouth and ends where the "sun don't shine" if you know what I mean. And we all know how dirty that end is. Same thing for the mouth.

It really doesn't help. You'll get bacteria in your wound from your saliva which is not meant to heal wounds.Animals have something in their saliva that helps heal their wounds but humans don't. But you do what you want to do.
