My insurance doesn't cover "preventative women's health"?

"Preventative women's health" meaning annual physical exams at the gyn, birth control of any type, and tests to screen for cancers found in women (mammograms, etc.).

BUT my insurance DOES cover viagra.

So I guess my question is, how messed up is that?

That is actually not too uncommon. With most insurance companies, even those that do cover annual exams and cancer screenings, they won't cover birth control unless you have a health reason for it like your periods are out of control or you have PCOS. It's a backwards system.

Are you serious!?!? That is horrible, and discriminatory. I would look at switching carriers, or if it is through your work I would make a big deal with the HR department on that. Also, you should see if the insurance covers cancer screening for men, which I suspect it does, just to fuel your complaint. Really messed up.

What insurance is this? Would they be covered if you had these done by your primary care physician? Perhaps you require a referral for these services with a gynecologist? I would suggestion calling your insurance company to see what can be done. There are likely a few things on your policy that are negotiable.

If I would you to call your insurance provider. Ask them about does have cover the preventative women's health benefits. If you're not happy with them. You can change another provider and see if they have any kinds medical coverage. Depend on your job, they offer you their health insurance benefits..

Find your nearest Planned Parenthood clinic, they will take care of all your female needs at a cost that works for you.
I do not have any insurance and they have helped me with everything from birth control to annual exams.

That is huge discrimination. I would change health insurance if you could or talk to a lawyer about protesting. You could probably get a class action lawsuit with that one. That really sucks! The company must be ran by old men!!
