Serious answers only please. Question concerning women health.?

When I was 13 I began to engage in sexual activity (with only 1 person), so I went and got on birth control to help aid in me not getting pregnant. I was on birth control pills for 4 years and then I decided to switch to the shot because with all the things going on in my life it was difficult to remember to take the daily pill at a certain time. I took the shot one time, I gained weight and it made me develop acne on my face for about a year after that. Now I've lost all of the weight and I'm acne free but the problem is... sometimes I go 6-7 months without having a period and then when I do get my period it lasts for about 1-2 weeks and it's heavy. I end up having to use two (overnight) maxi pads and one (super plus) tampon. I鈥檓 not and never have been pregnant. My granny and my mom have both had a hysterectomy. I've been to the doctor, had tests ran, they found a cyst on my ovary but my doctor said it really was too small to worry about right now. I've researched this and didn't really find much out. Can someone please help me? All serious answers are appreciated.

I would get a second opinion from a gynecologist. It could be a problem or it could be normal.

when you say tests, what type of tests are you talking about. It almost sounds as if it has something to do with your hormones. Also, since the amount of blood loss, has your OB/GYN checked you for anemia?

keep having that cyst checked out regularly. that was the cause of my missed periods and when i did get them they were extremely heavy. the cyst was not discovered until it grew so big i had to have the ovary removed. it tripled in size between the day it was found and the 3 weeks it took to get me back to the doctors by then it was so big they had no choice. so have it checked again and again. just in case. it could be something else but as common as they are it could be the cause.

You might consider going back on some form of birth control (unless you are actively trying to get pregnant, of course) to regulate your cycle. After 6 months or so, you should be able to stop the BC, and have a normal cycle.

If you still don't think you will remember the pill every day (I have the same problem) ask your doctor about the patch, or the birth control ring. They are basically the same as the pill, but easier to remember. Although, if you have sensitive skin you might want to avoid the patch. It can be irritating.

You need your mum to take you to a doctor to get tested for what is called Poly Cyctic Ovarian Syndrome. Basically you can either have no or irregular periods that range from light to extremely heavy. I got to the point I would not leave the house because I would need to change my super tampon every hour or less. I think the needle has worn off and now your body is trying to work out what it should be doing, and as well being on the pill from an early age could have masked all the symptoms for years. I am on the pill now to regulate me and i have a very light flow now.

Have a look at this site. But your mum needs to take you to a gyno or endocrinologist (hormone specialist) now.

get back on birth control, you take it first thing when you get up or last thing before sleep. learn to be responsible for your own body, you need to keep a check on your situation but being on pills should make your periods regular.
