Women's Health - Women Only!?

Hello - I Have Really Bad Period Pains.... is there anything I can do to reduce them? I need to be on the move and up and obaout - i have taken paracetomol but nothing is happening??!!

**about .......

ibrofen or co-codamol is fantastic for period pain. Also those patches that self heat are good on your tummy.

I know how you feel hun i get such bad pain and paracetamol well.....might as well suck a mint.

Thoughts are with you.

Exercise - always works for me! A good walk for instance. Yoga is also very good.

Try the period pain pills from the pharmacy - they do work

Light exercise, a heat patch (you can find them at Boots) and a cup of sweet tea always works for me. Oh, and a bit of chocolate!

Edit: I'm pretty sure buscopan is for IBS. Ask a pharmacist before you buy.

i have this problem too, and i suffer really bad pain.
i do gentle exercises and it seems to sooth the pain, as i go to dance classes.
you could also try taking stronger tablet like 'panadol acti-fast' they seem to work better than paracetomol.
hope it gets better x

If you suffer from pains maybe think about taking the pill? It makes your periods lighter and more pain free, I started taking the pill about a year ago and have never had a painful period since. Talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

try just relaxing with a hot water bottle on your stomach

Ibuprofen should work. If OTC drugs do not work for the pain, see a gynecologist.

you can take ibprophen

I would see your doctor about this, but i find a hot water bottle helps to reduce the pain when in bed and try a stronger pain killer

In simple terms, you have period pains due to the blood being blocked up and trying to come out. So therefore to reduce this you help the trapped blood by massaging your stomach, lower abdomen.

I hope this helps

Have you seen doctors? they could put you on the pill or that fails you could try the following:-

GINGER is very good for sickness and making a drink of grated ginger steeped in boiling water (strain it before drinking) can be good.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES Rescue Remedy is a lovely 'feel-good' homeopathic remedy if you're feeling sorry for yourself. St John's Wort can help with severe PMS but get advice before you give it to your daughter, especially as you don't say how old she is. It's quite powerful and can interfere with other medicines.

ANGUS CASTUS can be good for stabilising the menstrual cycle. Some people swear by it but I must admit it did nothing for me.

STARCHY FOOD little and often, works by keeping your blood sugar levels on an even keel. This can stop you passing out - the body needs about 200 extra calories during menstruation and it's important to eat, even if you don't feel like it. Chocolate is no good (spoilsport!) as it give 'empty calories' when what is needed is a reserve of slow-release carbohydrates to draw on.

Hi I usually find that if I take co-codamol it eases the pain and cramping also you can get heat pads for period pains these are like a mobile hot water bottle.Good luck hope this helps

im not sure of your age, but the pill really does help with cramping and bleeding. regular exercise and a heating pad help a lot. advil, ibuprofen, alleve, etc will help a lot. usually(for me) only 1 pill works. be sure to drink lots of water with these as they cause stomach irritation. hope you feel better.

Hi, i feel for you ,i take feninex, but thay do make me a bit light headed, hope your feeling well soon, try a nice bath and a hot water bottle all the best .susie

Nurofen Plus is good, as it contains ibuprofen and codeine, which both work to ease the pain in different ways. I used to use them for period pains, and within 20 minutes the pains had virtually disappeared.

YOGA is the way to go! do it regularily.... not only when your on your periode and soon the pains will be gone. and you can also try nurofen

hot water bottle, warm bath, anadin ibrufen. works for me

hot water bottle pain killers and chocolate to keep your mind busy if your periods heavy it might be worth you seeing if your iron levels are okay when mine are low i get very heavy painful periods.

Magnesium is supposed to help.

You can find further information in a search for "menstrual cramps" + magnesium as well as "period pains" + magnesium.
