Has anyone heard of Wilson's Disease, or does anyone have Wilson's Disease?

Has anyone heard of Wilson's Disease, or does anyone have Wilson's Disease?

No offense to the other person, but I am fairly sure that poster is wrong, Wilson's is NOT a thyroid disease. It is in fact due to an abnormal "protein" ( called ceruloplasmin) in some of your bodies cells. It is genetic, so likely other people in your family had it in the past but perhaps didn't know it. Anyway, you don't have enough of this protein, so it prevents cells in your body from moving copper around like it is supposed to. Since the protein can't correctly transport your copper normally, the copper tends to build up in places it shouldnt (such as your liver, kidney, eyes, or sometimes certain parts of the brain. This explains why people with Wilson's might have problems resembling hepatitis or certain kinds of movement problems. I know this is a lot of information, but you should ask your doctor if s/he knows of a support group or a geneticist (someone who specializes in this type of "inherited" disease and also ask what sorts of things you could do to deal with the disease. Perhaps you can find a support group online?? Hope it helps!

Yes I have heard of it. It is something a quack, well, a doctor but not a good one, made up to get people with underactive thyroids to come to him for help. HE put people on T3 thyroid hormone. I tried it. It was bad!!!!
I have hypothyroidism and take synthroid, which is T4. I am sticking with it. It is jist a matter of getting exactly the right dose of it. Wilson's disease does not exist. It is just hypothyroidism that has not been correctly diagnosed or treated.

never heard of it before and don't have it

I may have heard of it, but a friend of mine had Wegener's Disease, some crazy disease where his own immune system attacked his own organs. It wasn't very cool.

Wilson`s disease is also called HEPATO LENTICULAR DEGENERATION. It is autosomal recessive ,caused by deficiency of CERULOPLASMIN( copper protein )resulting in accumulationof copper in liver ,brain, and elsewhere.Copper deposits in liver cause jaundice cirrhosis(permanent degeneration).Corneal copper deposits and cataract may be caused.Involvement of brain and nervous system pont to diagnosis. It is amenable to therapy by chelating agents.

It is a disease of copper toxicosis, as autosomal recessive trait. With the following symptoms: Abnormal involuntary movements -common tremors and dystonia. Cirrhosis of liver. Copper is highly excreted in the urine More deposits of copper in the liver.
