Has your child ever had whooping cough? If so, did anything help control their cough so they could sleep? |
We are waiting on the results of my son's Whooping Cough test. (I am nearly convinced that is what he has.) He's 16 mos old. For anyone who's been through this with a young child (under 2), was there anything you were able to give them that enabled them to sleep? My son hasn't had more than 15 min of uninterrupted sleep in the past four days. His Ped recommended Delsym, but that was before they suspected whooping cough. The Delsym isn't working. Please don't tell me I need to ask his doctor. He's obviously under medical care and I WILL ask about cough medication once they can confirm his diagnosis. For now, I'm just curious as to other people's experiences. I wanted to add that the reason I believe he might have this, is whooping cough starts with symptoms that are indistinguishable from a cold or other upper respiratory infection. Two and a half weeks ago, we thought he did have a cold. However, now all of his cold symptoms are gone, but he has this pitiful, non-stop, hacking cough. He's had it for a week now, but it's worsened in the past few days. I am sorry for what you are going through, my youngest sister had whooping cough as a new born. She was exposed in the hospital when she was born, and at 2 weeks she was diagnosed and put in a children's hospital for two weeks. It was horrible to watch her go through it. I was 16 at the time and took shifts at the hospital 2 hours away to give my mother a break. She was in an oxygen tent and would strangle just trying to take a bottle. We found that if we held her upright to sleep she found some relief and could sleep for an hour or so at a time. It is difficult and frustrating but it will pass. Just do the best you can and know that it is curable. I will keep you and your son in my prayers. My son never had whooping cough but he was born with croupe which sounds just like whooping cough, doctor advised i use a steamer in his room at night and gave me some medicine to bring down the swelling in his throat so that he could breathe better! if you child has croupe, they should grow out of it around the age of 5yrs. grate some ginger, add teaspoon honey and boiling water drink it when cooled works everytime... its natural "Both of my son,s had early diagnosis of asthma "As i did give hima dose of DROSERA 200 ONLY ONE DOSE ADN FOLLOW IT WITH IPECAC200 AM AND Cup.met 200 at night for 7 days. the woop whall go. this is homeopathic medicine. best prescription |
