What year did whooping cough was dicovered?

Pertussis was recognizably described as early as 1578 by Guillaume de Baillou (1538-1616), but earlier reports date back at least to the 12th century. B. pertussis was isolated in pure culture in 1906 by Jules Bordet and Octave Gengou. The complete B. pertussis genome of 4,086,186 base pairs was sequenced in 2002.

1867, in a small town near london

Don't know but I had it in 1962

It's been described in medical texts since the 1640's.

The bacterium Bordatella pertussis was isolated in 1906.

The vaccine was introduced in the 1940's.

This website talks about whooping cough (pertussis) being recognized as early as the 1500's

"Outbreaks of pertussis were documented as early as the 1500s. The bacteria were first discovered in 1906."

IT was discovered in 1989 after Jack Rovinson came home from a night of partying. He named it "whooping cough" cause he had read somewhere that Whooping Cranes flew, and he found that odd... why did he find that odd you ask? ..because after 4 hits of LSD he couldn't get his arm close enough to the moon to touch it, and so disillusioned with himself, he thought that no other mammal in existence could fly. Unlucky for him, he didn't have his socks on, and so he got a nasty cough that people around him say he dubbed it "the whooping cough". Believers say he said "DAMN IT, I CAN'T FLY, I'M NOT HERCULES, AND BLAST THIS DAMN WHOPPING COUGH!"

... dont worry though, he took two tylenol pm later on that night and slept sound :) ..by the next day, it had all gone but disappeared..

-except for the BLASTED WHOPPING CRANE!...
