I thought whooping cough was not a problem any more, I thought there was a vaccine for it.

There no longer is whooping cough in the US ! It affects you lungs and throat. It was called whooping cough because of the sounds the person made while they were coughing.

Whooping cough known medically as pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection.

Whooping cough affects your upper airways, mostly the windpipe (trachea) and the tubes branching off from the windpipe (bronchi).

Some people think of whooping cough as having gone the way of polio-a childhood disease eradicated thanks to a vaccination campaign. But whooping cough hasn't been wiped out. Whooping cough is that to be on the rise for two main reasons. The whooping cough vaccine you receive as a child eventually wears off, leaving most teenagers and adults susceptible to the infection during an outbreak. In addition, children aren't fully immune to whooping cough until they've received at least three shots, leaving those 6 month and younger at great risk of contracting the infection.

whooping cough medically known as pertussis's mainly effects respiratory mucus membrane.it's mainly the disease of children under 1 yr of age.this is a disease in which a reflex arc is formed in brain which constantly excites the coughing center in brain hence producing long cough for a couple of minutes
