Whiplash, How long to recover? |
Whiplash, recovery time? In my wild and crazy youth, I often ended up with whiplash after going to concerts and clubbing. (too much headbanging) Here is the advice my doctor gave me. Try to rest you neck in a neutral position. I used to lie on my back with a roll under my neck. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) helps with pain and swelling. You can apply hot and/or cold packs to the sore area for 15 minutes. Hot increases circulation, cold reduces swelling. Gentle stretches to ease the muscle tightness. I do recommend you consult with your Doctor. Physical therapy or other treatments may help as well. The hardest thing about muscles injuries to the neck and back is that it often takes time until you are feeling better. it usually lasts til the insurance company pay out I don't know if you'll find this helpful but: I was in a major car accident (head on collision with a van going 80 mph) which pushed my car into the path of a tractor trailer, which didn't have time to stop and ran over the entire back end of my car. It's a miracle I lived thru that. I had whiplash lasting for 3 years: neck pain every day for 3 years and now I periodically have mild stiffness and discomfort. |
