Whiplash, how to cope with it?


Hi, first I must thank you for taking the time to read my question! thanks!
I was in a car accident on January 14, 2006, and I am still in chronic pain all the time. I've been going to physiotherapy since the day after the accident happened and it brings me temporary relief. I'm only 16 and I dont think that I should have to go through this kind of pain. I have schoolwork to do and it really hurts to sit and work for more than a half hour. but I always push myself then I pay for it later. I cant sleep at night. I get about 5 to 6 hours of sleep each night and I take Advil and Tylenol constantly. they dont really do anything though. When I have any kind of stress in my life, like my brother who has really bad bipolar becomes depressed. I get stressed and my neck gets realllly sore. I just need some way of coping with this whiplash that just doesnt seem to be going away. does anyone know how to cope with it?

You hurt your neck flexor muscles, the muscles that are in the front of your neck. what about the pillows you are using? maybe the pillows are to thick, high, not comfortable...yes you are right those medication wont do a think to help you, keep going to your therapist, ask your doctor if he can prescribe a neck brace, although this is a chronic pain. Have you tried massage therapy?
believe me it will help, not only to relax those muscles that are agitated, but to help you cope with it, by relaxing you, know one thing, massage is not only to RELAX a person, but it can help you medically, circulation, spasm, to decrease pain, increase range of motion.
Ask your Dr. for a referall to see a massage therapist, give it a try.

I would get something for muscle pain like a lotion or gel. That helped me a lot. DEFFINATELY check out a chiropractor. I'm sure your doctor can prescribe a pain killer. You will deffinately be in my prayers, hope you are feeling better soon.

you need to see your Dr. for some medication for stress and pain, what you are taking is nothing for the level of pain you are in.

I went to physio for 4 months for neck pain & it didn't do a thing for me. Started with a chiropractor 2-3 times a week & it helped alot. You HAVE to make it a point to do the stretching exercises the chiro tells you. I go once every 3 weeks or so now & still take Advil, which is better than Tylenol for this type of pain. Also I find heat helps loosen things up. Good luck.
