How serious is Whiplash?

my boyfriend recently suffered whiplash in a car accident and i want to know how serious it can be

There is no way to tell if your boyfriends injury will be serious or not. Some people get whiplash and recover in days or weeks. Others are permanently injured. Whiplash is a soft tissue injury and they can take up to 6 months to heal. I was in a car wreck a little over 4yrs ago and my only injury was whiplash but it has done permanent damage to my back and neck. I suffer from chronic pain and it has drastically changed my life. My husband was in the car with me got whiplash and recovered in a few months with the help of a chiropractor.

If there is to be a lawsuit against the insurance he needs to keep a diary of things he can and cannot do, pain level, meds taken daily, dr's appts and what they say and also how much sleep he is getting. This will help allot. If it ends up being a lengthy process those notes will be valuable.

I know it's scary but it's a waiting game. He needs to get into physical therapy as soon as possible.

IT IS VERY SERIOUS IF YOU WERE IN A CAR ACCIDENT.

i suffered whiplash due to car accident about 5 years ago and it took me about 6 months to fully recover. The first month was prob the worst and couldnt even wash my own hair. It can be very serious and it is very painfull. I also recieved 拢12,500 from insurance company so my spending spree made up for it.

Whiplash can be very serious. There is sometimes tears in the muscle. It makes it hard to ben your head. It is best not to make it worst and see a doctor.

whiplash is a life long commitment- with that I mean it never goes away, it may not bother you all the time - but the bones in the neck are forever changed-- and with age may cause problems----

It can rang from very minor discomfort to being fatal
Having said that the general rule of thumb is 12 to 18 months for a full recovery but speak to your doctor if you have not already done so

"whiplash" is typically used as a slang term for a neck sprain/strain. most cases of "whiplash" are minor and you can fully recover w/in 6-8 weeks, up to 12 weeks in some cases. imagine spraining your ankle or your wrist....the typical recovery period is again 6-8 weeks for those injuries as well.
what you need to remember when seeking medical advice for "whiplash" is to see a medical professional first (MD). I would not seek chiropractic care first. You need to have an xray first to rule out any fractures, and a chiropractor is not a medical doctor. A chiropractor gives you relief from pain, and does not cure anything either. Whiplash refers to the muscles.....so typically the best advise and most medical doctors will refer you to physical therapy, which will help rebuild the muscles and tendons that were stretched, strained or torn with your injury.
in addition, it's idiotic to say that you "sue" your insurance company, and lack of education regarding the process. your insurance company was not at "fault" in any accident and are a representation of the person that injured you. You are filing a lawsuit against the tort feasor (the person that was at fault) and the insurance company is not named in the suit, but it's their job to provide a defense. Many states have restrictions to this and depending on your state laws will dictate how your claim will be handled. (no fault states ect)
but in regards to the whiplash, typically it is not serious or life threating. your boyfriend needs to take it easy, use pain relievers or muscle relaxers if prescribed, see a medical doctor and go to physical therapy...this is typically the best course of action....and remember....accidents happen....if you were the one at fault....would you want someone to take advantage of your insurance company if they were not "seriously" injured? this is why insurance rates are sky high!
