I was in a car wreck about two months ago. I was hit from behind and the empact was so hard it totaled out my car. The first two weeks i was home and on meds and taking physical theropy. At that time i put on 15 pds and felt depressed. I then went back to work but found out that it was just making things worse. My emploreer put me in a position that is alot easier on my neck and back. I still go to theropy and i still feel depressed. I have no energy and no motivation. My queston is this, how long does it take to heal and why am i so lazy when i normally had all kinds of energy. Please help me, at times i feel like my life is a living hell. ( i am 46 ) Thanks Traumatic events can take a toll on your whole system, not just physically, but also emotionally. It sounds like this has happened to you with your car accident. Neck pain is especially painful. Frustrations are normal and so is the weight gain, maybe not at that rate; but I wouldn't focus so much on it, as the reason is most likely your immobility for that period of time.
Each individual persons' case differs in length of healing time in spinal injuries. I am not a dr. so I cannot tell you any time length and do not know your circumstances. I did do a search though and from what I discovered, whiplash injuries usually recover within 3-6 months. Your physical therapist could tell you more.
I will answer to your question about laziness and depression however. That sounds like depression as you suspected. I would not say it is clinical depression. I'd suspect more of a trauma induced depression that is a result of the accident and being homebound. I'd suggest consulting a psychiatrist, maybe ask your physical therapist to refer you. Good luck. |
