What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see someone who uses a wheelchair to get around?

coming from 32 years of being disabled myself ( i am in a wheelchair permanently) i would say most people that use a chair, scooter etc. probably needs it but i have saw some people who were trying to trick their insurance company.

Well, if they are big, I guess my response would be that they need to get up and exercise and maybe they wouldn't be in that predicament. I know that sounds bad but I have know people to go to Wal-mart, get out of their car, walk in and hop in a scooter. Maybe if they walked around more, they would feel better. I know that it is not true for all cases, though. Some do have ligitimate medical problems. I often wonder why they are in the chair if it is not obvious to begin with. Those are just my thoughts.

That they are either really disabled, or trying to rip off thier insurance company!

I use to think that they could not use their legs at all or very little and would give a second look at people that would come out of the cars and hop into scooters..... that all has changed. NOW.....because of dealing with MS and the fatigue that comes along , the weakness in limbs, and balance issues I can understand the need to use such devices to conserve energy and last longer. I use a shopping cart to lean on when I am at the store.... the thought of using a scooter has crossed my mind but I think about the way I use to think about it and try to make it without one as long as possible.
