If im in a wheelchair, how will i go to school?

my school ain't wheelchair accessible. I need surgery, planning to be in a wheelchair to relief pain and agony and allow my feet to heal.

so do i talk to my principal or something? will I transfer to a school that does? am I going to miss school?? How the crap am I going to go up the stairs every morning and after school and get to class in time?! D: ....

I could do one foot at a time, but it's a very painful process and takes longer, I want to be foot-pain free before prom and my eurotrip during summer time. :)_

I'm pretty sure that it's a federal law that it be accessible or that an accommodation be made, by the school. If you're a minor, have your parents meet with the principal. You should be there too because this is a discussion about how the school will help you and you best know what you'll need. Extra time to get to and from class? A long term pass for a friend who can help you through the corridors and up the stairs? A school assigned tutor for certain hard to get to classes? These are the kinds of things you might ask for.

Also, be sure you and your parents talk to your doctor before hand (pre-op and pre-principal) and ask the doctor to write up what you will and won't be capable of (again, relative to school and how you will need to interact with the physical environment there) during your recovery period. Having the doc write this up will give you documentation should that be necessary.

I'm happy you don't need surgery, really it's a blessing. If your doc can't do anything for you (what is going on w/your feet?!), consider finding a new doc. You're young enough that no one should expect you to be resigned to such mobility limitations - at least not w/o 1st looking at all options. Report It

My school isn't wheelchair accessible, too but there's two or three kid in wheelchair in my school and they seem to be fine. Simply, get your parent to drive you to school then make sure they ride you to the entrance to school then you can go inside. If your class is upstair or downstair on another floor, use the elevator, trust me, they will obviously let you until you heals. Good luck and I recommend you go and have a talk with your principal and make sure everything will going as you want it to be.
