Suburb of Chicago: need light wheelchair, live on 2nd floor. Where do I find one, cheap or free? |
Friend suddenly had amputation. Can't move from 2nd floor apartment at this time. We can't carry her heavy wheelchair up the stairs, can't leave it downstairs, as there is no place to store it and she needs it all the time in her apartment. I live in the chicagoland area as well. I don't know of a specific place to send you to. I think you should look through your local paper for people selling a wheelchair. It sounds like you need one of the ultra light folding wheelchairs. Talk to her physican or the local pharmacy. They should be able to guide you in the right direction to help you find something affordable. Her insurance may even cover it. Try www.craigslist.com for Chicago. EBAY! Lion,s Club they are great. If your friend is an amputee they should be eligible for medicaid who will buy them a wheelchair if its really needed If you are over 65 many appliances for disabled people are available at no charge at your local senior center. one word: eBay FREECYCLE Hay t-bird, do u have any friend that live grounded and allow her to stay for a while? if yes.. then maybe they can help.. Try eBay and also run an ad in your local paper. Also, have people look at garage sales. And ask at your local hospitals. Sometimes they retire or can direct you to wheelchairs. |

Sorry, NO. But your local Health care provider should be able to provide one....Are you on a waiting list? Check the local paper I have seen them advertised before. I would have thought an MS suffe... She might just be looking for attention.... Or she was actually in pain It may not have been her legs, you could have bumped her legs which hurt her foot or back. ...Because until you actually leave the hospital, you are in the care of the hospital -- once you are out the door, you are no longer a patient -- it's a liability issue. ...well get yourself into rehab and let them do an evaluation then go to a medical supply stores and get yourself a custom running wheelchair which are a three large wheels with two besides you and on... Well that depends on the size of your body, how much muscle you have, and how much energy you expend during the day. If you speak to an exercise physiologist they should be able to determine all... One of my classmates uses one. It really helps him to fit in. ...I would imagine that it's all upper body exercises. ...I have two wheelchairs, however try to stay out of them if I can. Best of Luck ... |
