West nile virus symptoms? |
I lived in Salisbury, md in the year 1999. I moved to az in 1999 a month later I was in the hospital for 4 months with a brain infection. Would there be any corallation? West Nile Virus was first discovered in Uganda in 1937. In about 80% (ish) of people, infection causes no symptoms. In others, the virus causes mild flu-like symptoms known as West Nile fever, with symptoms including malaise, fever, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, eye pain, headache, myalgia (muscle aches), diarrhea, rash, and lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes). Symptoms develop 3鈥?5 days after infection, lasting 3-6 days (ish). It can particularly debilitating to the very young and the elderly. The most serious effects (less than 1% of cases) are encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord), So, your answer is yes. If you don't have any other symptoms I don't think you have anything to worry about. Most persons who become infected with West Nile virus (WNV) develop no clinical illness or symptoms... ... I don't know if I'd call it an everyday virus as much as I'd say it's one of the more lethal ones. I think the results of using pesticides will come back to bite us in the butt ... I left Denver last year to come to Miami. I haven't heard of Lyme disease or WNV since I arrived.
