How do people prevent the spearding of west nile virus once they get it?

WNV is not spread by casual contact. It is known as a vector borne virus...it uses the mosquito as the primary tansmission to humans. The mosquito aquires it usually after biting an infected bird. There are rare cases or possibility for transmission during organ transplantation, breast feeding, mother passing to unborn child.

As a physical therapist, I have worked with a number of patients who were infected with WNV and suffered from encephalitis...I had to use only standard precations with these patients....no gown or mask, etc.

They stay inside. It's contagious. Or else wear a mask.

I didn't think this was a contagious disease??? One of my best friends got bit by a mosquito and was dead in a week....she got swelling of the brain??????????
