Weight training a substitute for cardio?

I recently added weight training to my workout schedule and i do it every other day. the days that i am not weight training, i do at least a 30 min cardio workout. I used to just do cardio 5 or six times a week. now i alternate between the two on a daily basis, but i'm doing something 7 days a week. so half my cardio workouts are replaced by weight training. in terms of burning calories and fat, is it a good substitute for cardio? is this exercise routine adequate? i'm 16 by the way.

Hey, your current routine of alternating cardio exercise and weight training is an excellent one! keep it up!

But in order to rest in between exercise, perhaps you can do like this:

Monday - cardio 30 mins; weight training 10-15 mins

Wednesday - cardio 30 mins, weight training 10-15 mins

Friday - cardio 30 minutes, weight training 10-15 mins

Sunday - just cardio for 30 mins

Weight training and cardio are 2 different exercises altogether.

Weight training is for you to strenghten, define and grow your muscles. The more muscle you pack into your body, the higher your metabolic rate, so the more calories you burn off. This is because by nature, muscle is metabolically active.

Cardio exercise is to exercise your heart and lungs to keep them in good shape plus building up your endurance and at the same time bolster up your metabolic rate, to burn off body fat from your entire body.

You can't substitute weight training for cardio or vice versa. You'd to do both, to greatly benefit from them.

In terms of burning calories and fat, both are great fat burners!

It is good to get at least 3 days of cardio in. Weight training is good. I have met guys that think they only need to do weight training. I think other wise. Weight training is good for burning calories and fat, but cardio is important as well.
