What do you think of weight loss surgery?

i think it is insane for anybody to put themselves on a table, only to have to eat right and exercise anyways, food is an all time commonality among all people all ages, it is a basic instinct, why would someone deprive themselves of that?!?! with the obvious exception of hormonal and glandular problems, i think that people are just really freaking lazy, and for those who say they tried 10 different diets, strictly, well fad diets don't work, and the rest are either lying or really impatient. losing weight is hard work, why do so many people think there is a quick fix?

ok so some people gain weight faster than others, but 700 pounds, even 100 pounds, get real

ooh, I don't think anyone should think of major surgery as a quick fix. I do think some people who opt for this sort of surgery see it as their last chance at a "normal" life. I get discouraged if I look at the 15 pounds I have to lose, I'd hate to think of 215, 315 or more. As I see it, I am just happy to not be in that position. Those people don't need to be judged for their choices.

well personally i think it's alright if they're really obese i mean, yeah they're lazy... but if they pay for liposuction or whatever then fair enough
they should just try and eat right in the first place though, i do agree with you on that

If they can afford it, then I'm not gonna say they shouldn't.
If they are going into debt to do so, I'm still not gonna say they shouldn't.

Don't care. People are so vain, it's disgusting.

Yes, I think being vain and lazy about it is worse.

I agree, the only sure fire way to maintain a healthy weight is lifestyle changes, otherwise, it's a temporary solution to a life long problem.

The problem with this surgery is that it wrongly teaches obese people that they can get results without doing the work and most gain back most of their weight within a five year period.

Have you ever wondered how some people can eat whatever they want and never gain weight? It's metabolism. Some skinny people starve themselves to be skinny, some people stay skinny no matter what. Same thing happens with people who are morbidly overweight. Some people have very slow metabolisms and would be overweight no matter what and others overeat and become obese.

Don't be so judgmental. People who weight 700 pounds NEED weight loss surgery to help them lose weight. They have been overweight their entire lives- even since they were toddlers. They have an extremely slow metabolism and it goes much deeper than just being lazy....just like some naturally skinny people can eat all day and lay around watching tv and don't gain weight. My brother is lazy but his metabolism is very fast so he stays skinny no matter how much he eats.

EDIT: Thats your problem that you don't go to the gyno. You can go to the health department and they do them on a sliding scale fee. As far as Medicaid paying for them-- obviously the doctor thinks the person needs the surgery. It isn't a quick fix, it isn't about vanity---if someone is THAT heavy as to need gastric bypass surgery then they are at HIGH RISK for a heart attack. LIFE threatening.

And why do you keep giving thumbs down just because people aren't as shallow as you? You asked our opinions, you got them.

I think of it as a last resort. Losing hundreds of pounds seems daunting, and if they have tried diet and exercise, it can be very frustrating if they aren't seeing results.
I don't think I would do it myself, if I were to let myself get that big, but I don't judge people too harshly if they do it. They have their reasons.

well, the problem is that we are suppose to be normally fit naturally because in nature the fit survive, but ever since humanity created civiliization we have protection and dont worry about being chased by animal predators or anything like that. thats why there is only eating.

How bout this, stop being so judgemental! Your giving everyone rude answers to their questions, you accused me of using my stepson as a means of getting extra money on our taxes. You have NO CLUE what we do with our tax money or how we get it, what we can claim, our assets, nothing! You don't even know my name so who are you say such things? Stop judging people and asking questions like this. Your basically making fun of people. This is an honest site with people who are really looking for answers and/or conversation...not arguments and insults.
