Which weight loss surgery has less risks, lap band surgery or mini gastric bypass?

Which weight loss surgery has less risks, lap band surgery or mini gastric bypass?

This is a more complex question that it might seem at first glance. The lap band is a simpler operation to do so it has been more widely adopted by surgeons who do not do a lot of bariatric operations. However, I personally have real questions about the durability and long term effectiveness. Clearly the band will not last forever, and in many instances will require removal or replacement.

On the other hand, gastric bypass done open or laparoscopically is a much more complicated operation. There for technical complications are more frequent. However, it had a long term track record and can be counted on for sustained substantial weight loss in the majority of instances. Even gastric bypass is not fool proof. There is no operation that a determined person cannot eat around and regain most of their weight.

If I were the one getting the surgery I would opt for Gastric Bypass...The stability of the band has NOT been proven to my satisfaction.
