Any one heard of the new weight loss surgery?

I heard about this on TV yesterday and thought about a friend that really needs help.
I think they called it Band- Do
(I might have name wrong)
They stated no surgury...you tighten the band if you get hungry.
Any one aware of this? If so I would like to learn more about it.
Thanks in advance......

I think you are referring to the "Lap Band" surgery-

A relatively non-invasive (usually done laproscopically by making five small one-inch incisions on the abdomen and using robotics) procedure to attach a flexible "band" around the upper part of the patient's stomach creating the "pouch" effect of the more common Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, restricting the amount of food a patient can take in before feeling full.

The cons to this surgery: It's not as widely practiced as the aforementioned gastric bypass procedure, and you have to have a "port" in the side of your abdomen- a small hole for drainage and to tighten the band should it require such measures.

The pros- it's adjustable, and it's reversible. And for many people, who don't like the idea of having their small intestine cut, partially removed, and then re-routed to their newly formed "pouch" of a stomach, it proves to be an alternative.

As someone who went through with the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass procedure, I can assure you that, for me, the benefits of the Gastric Bypass far outweighed those of the Lap-Band. My surgeons were the best in the business- that I made sure of- and were partnered with the Bon Secour Surgical Weight Loss Center (out of Virginia). They had never lost a patient, which was a releif for me, and were specialists in the laproscopic approach. (That is, you don't have a huge foot-long scar...)

I had it done the day after my eighteenth birthday- and though I was a bit nervous on my way to the operating table, I've got to say I'm sure I did the right thing. I weighed in at nearly 500 lbs, and had come to this conclusion: If I die, I'll die trying. Nothing else had worked for me- and I'd let it get out of hand to the point where diet and excercise were a joke.

I had a three-day hospital stay, and was back to work in a month. I dropped down to 190 lbs in less than a year (yay!), which is where I wanted to be, considering my large frame and the fact that I've always wanted to be plus-size by society's standards- just not morbidly obese. :) Since then, (I'm now 20 years old), I've gotten married and am now six and a half months pregnant with my first child- something I'd never be able to do if I was still as overweight as I had been.

If you have any questions/concerns/or just want to talk- especially if you're considering such a procedure, feel free to email me. :)

yes its been out for a while. Its an adjustable band but I think only the doctors can re adjust it not the patient. It is more flexible than gastric bypass in the sense it can be adjusted after priliminary the surgery (I think it is called the Lap band)
