Why do people get emotionally attached to things like wheelchairs and walkers?

Why do people get emotionally attached to things like wheelchairs and walkers?
I speak from personal experince.
I had a stroke 4 yrs ago, I needed a wheelchair, and then a walker. I threw the walker I had at home away,as I dont need it anymore.(I didnt donate it because it was in bad condition) I had another one here, where Im doing a seminar on computers (crete)
Its not even mine, it belongs to the instition here, and since I dont need it, it sits quietly in a corner.
yesterday, someone was playing with it, and it really upset me.
this is confusing, as I have never been a "dont touch my stuff" kind of person. And its not even mine!
I talked to other people in wheelchairs and with crutches, and they feel the same way.
Its like someone touching your private parts!
can you explain this, please?

Because they become a part of you. I spent three years on crutches when I was in high school and I used to get really mad at people when they wanted to play with them. I work security in a resort area and our employees have to take a sensitivity class to stress the point that wheelchairs are actually an extension of the people sitting in them--if you're touching a wheelchair without asking, it's like touching that person without asking.

mayb because ur onli way of gettin around was that wheelchair it offered u a sense of freedom. thats y ur so attached! try ging to places of doing things that u ***** do with a wheelchair. it will make u feel grateful u cn walk. U need to let go!

Wheels tend to be static and so turning corners is a problem. The balls allow the walker to be maneuverable in any direction, bit like that famous vacuum cleaner. Best of Luck
