Why are there tennis balls on walkers?

Why are there tennis balls on walkers?

so they don't scuff floors, i think...

it helps so the walker doesn't snag on carpet or any type of floor. with a tennis ball on the legs of a walker, it glides smoothly over the ground. otherwise if it snagged the person would eat it....

Great question. They are there to protect the floor from scuff marks.

It keeps them from scuffing the floor, keeps the walker from making a lot of noise hitting the ground especially if the rubber on the bottom has worn through to the metal. It also keep thems from snagging on loose stuff which again the metal bottom would catch on just about everything if it was worn through.

The tennis balls allow for the walkers to move easier along the ground/floor without scratching that particular surface.

Also, another reason would be for a patient that may not be able to lift the walker to walk. If the person has unsteady balance or is not very strong with their upper extremities the tennis balls allow the person to push the walker along without changing their center of gravity or requiring much strength.
