Please tell me which foods work for you in easing IBS? I'm trying to ID my triggers but I'm so hungry!Help |
If you know of any safe food to help me please let me know...everything I eat seems to cause a problem! The only thing I seem to be able to eat with out it causing a problem are bananes and walkers baked whole crips! So if you have any suggestions please let me know-Thanks Thanks to everyone who has posted a suggestion, I am trying some out, so far the mash potato is doing well :O) Also I found poached eggs and olives are safe!! But I'm bloating out with yoghurt and milk! So I'm thinking it could be a dairy intolerance?? It's weird how it's only just started? Try things like a jacket potato or plain boiled potato's, Boiled rice, poached fish, and chicken. They work for me. You can eat whatever you like! I eat curries and anything I fancy and I've had IBS for 23 years!! It's getting stressed out that starts mine, even if I've not eaten anything!! Don't drink milk as milk irritates the bowel. Eat plenty veg as that seems to help it and it takes any bacteria out of the bowel which is the best thing you can do for it. Fruit and fruit juice also help although you'd think the opposite would be true but believe me it isn't. The less fibre you eat the more your gut will go into spasms as it's got nothing to work on, so try and eat a healthy diet and don't stress about it, as you can live with it once you get the hang of it. Oh, no vegetable oil when frying and only Sunflower oil. Hard luck - these are a a few tips I've picked up over the years: It's an individual thing. What upsets one person will not upset another. As some have said, it's different for everyone. I find plain brown rice helps, and plain yogurt. General rules: try to eat little and often; drink lots of water. You need to avoid each trigger food group, that you think it may be, in turn for at least a week each. If you cut lots of things out you will not know which one is actually causing the problem. After the week, gradually add it back into your diet to see if there is any difference.Remember also, the more uptight and anxious you are about the whole thing, the worse the IBS gets because it is stress related too. It depends whether you've got the IBS that makes you have diarreah or the one that makes you constipated. I know you did not request a medicament but this worked for me and I pass it on whenever I can. I too have this problem and my triggers seem to be spicy or exotic foods, try to stay away from these for sure. Rice, its brilliant as it 'lines' the system. My daughter eats rice pudding made with water then adds rice milk (she is gluten and lactose intolerant) she also adds cinnamon which is a natural antiseptic/healer. She will have a cup of this each morning and lives on it when having an attack. True each person is different with Ibs plus depending on stress and anxiety levels plus your sensitivity and allergies if any. I get diarrhea, not constipation on my IBS. IBS sucks. I so feel for "Anyone" with IBS. It's no fun for sure in life. Myself I know jello, potato soup(even if told dairy should be avoided), rice with chicken broth and celery, baked fish, boiled potatoes, lots of water to drink, with me, there isn't too much that I can think of off hand that doesn't trigger me. Good luck either way. I sure wish you the best. weetabix should do it or bran flakes I have IBS& find mashed potatoes help me Another thing that helps is a hot drink Slippery Elm you can get it in heathfood shops its a little like a bedtime drink really soothing Wild yam, standardized extract, helps to prevent IBS for me. The foods that make me sick are: all poultry, eggs, honey, beets, and cherries. Different foods bother different people. Try keeping a food diary. Sometimes for me it is up to 12 hours from the time I eat the food to the time I get sick. You seem to have quite a few good advice from people on here. I have a list of avoiding sugar, refined foods, wheat , dairy. I avoid these when I am desperate! You are allergic to some type of food. |
