I have mild pain in genitals and groin, moderate itching primarily after my period...any ideas?

For the past few months i have moderate itching and burning the week after my period. i use scented tampons which i just found out were a no no. I have mild pain in my groin and genital area off and on throughout the month. The discharge fluctuates throughout the month as well. I see no sores and the doctors have told me to use yeast infection meds the week after but that makes it worse. Currently i have one pimple on my butt cheek but as i've had that before and it doesn't hurt or itch i'm hoping it's not an indication of herpes. I've read these symptoms can be that of herpes but also vulvodynia. Has anyone had similar problems? If it was herpes wouldnt i have blisters? The itching goes away after about five days and then i just have to deal with occasional groin pain, genital pain and back ache. i also am on my feet all day for work so that could play into the pain as well. Any ideas would be appreciated

i'm 23 years old and take birth control

The mild pain could come from endometriosis , fibroids, or cysts. Did the doctor order a culture to confirm the yeast? I am wondering if the yeast medication is allowing other bacteria to overgrow and upset the natural balance. This can also cause the itchiness. I would not use tampons anymore to see if this solves the problem. The tampons are perfect place for bacteria to grow. Do not use douches either. Douches disrupt the natural balance of the vaginal area and can make it worse. If you are using a lubricant, throw it out--it could be infected with bacteria and causing the itchiness. K-Y jelly comes in little tubes that solves this problem. This happened to me before and also with the lubricant from the condoms. If you insist on using tampons, they make natural cotton ones and these are found in the Whole Foods Market.

for the discomfort, flagyl 300mg is really good. this can only be bought with prescription.

also how old are u?

it can also be hormonal inbalances.

If you get itchy on your genital area on or around your period, it is caused from hormones. I got itchy too, and my doctor gave me cream to use on my genital area, when it is close to my period time, and I get itchy.

Yeast medicine will make the infection more intense and/or make you itch more when you first start using it. Chances are you are allergic to tampons. For your next cycle use pads and see what happens. Decrease your suger and bread intake and see if that helps also.
