What happens when a bartholin's gland cyst ruptures? Is it normal if it's bloody?

I have been having some vaginal/vulvar irritation and found a lump about the size of a blueberry outside the vaginal opening down between the skin flaps (labia). I already have a doctor appointment, but it's 3 weeks before I can get in. I'm just looking for some info that will hopefully ease my mind until then because I'm a little worried. After some googling, I thought this might be a bartholin cyst or abcess (it was sore to the touch), so I soaked in hot bath last night. This morning, there were a few spots of blood, and I'm wondering if this could just be a normal cyst that has ruptured (the soreness was relieved too), or if the bloodiness could mean something more serious like cancer. I am 38 years old. Thanks for any responses.

I completely agree with Lynn. It sounds just like a bartholin cyst. Blood is completely normal. Just keep your eye on it for the next few days to make sure it completely resolves. Your doctors office would have just drained it to relieve the pain...if it has ruptured there is not much else they can do for it, but you may want to still keep your appointment just to make sure everything is fine and there is no infection. It's always best to have things cleared with your doctor. Glad you're feeling better.

This sounds like a normal everyday cyst. Try doing more warm baths, and keeping it clean and dry. It's normal for those cysts to open and drain. Good for it too. It could also be a bartholins cyst. They don't open by them selves very often. I think you should keep your appointment, because you can get a staph infection if you aren't careful. In the meantime, warm soaks, and massaging the cysts will help relieve the pressure and pain.
Those things do hurt ! I've had them too.

That sounds just like a bartholin gland cyst. When it ruptures, pus and blood will come out. Then, there will be instant relief. You can probably cancel your appointment.

I have had about 3 of those things. They can be VERY painful.

I sincerely doubt it. A biopsy will be needed to make that diagnosis. Get another opinion. Good luck!
