Boyfriend ill- vomiting blood etc.?

For a week now my boyfriend has been complaining about a really bad headache, fever, vomiting. The headache got so bad he got blind spots in his left eye. Went to his doctor and was told it was just pressure and gave him pills. He didnt get any better, just got worse. Two days ago he suddenly started vomiting loads, everywhere, and tried to get outside for some air. He collapsed on the hallway of his apartments and started vomiting black blood. He was taken to hospital. He had been passing blood in stools before and was told it was an ulcer in his bowels. When he was admitted he was delerious/confused. A man in his early 30s shouldnt be confused. They are doing test tomorrow & a brain scan on Tuesday. Does anyone have a clue what might be wrong? He also has purple blotches on his skin. He cut his leg recently but was already ill, but their still gonna check he didnt contract anything. Please help, Im so worried about him.

He was in hospital but they discharged him because they got him well enough to walk again, which is ridiculous! Hes staying at his mothers at the minute so he has someone with him. Definitely should not be home.

He needs emergency care. Please don't wait around..

take him to the emergency room and do not leave until you find out what is wrong

sounds like blood poisoning or septicemia (think it mite be same thing) just pray like hell he pulls thru

Your boyfriend is very sick. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what's making him this ill without know the blood test results and/or xrays. From the information you provided, problems with his liver would be on the top of the list. Does he have a history of hepatitis? Does he drink alchol heavily? Many of his symptoms are consistent with acute hepatitis, which can cause fever, low platelet count (explains the bruising)malaise, vomiting, and vomiting blood. If he did indeed have an ulcer in his bowels, perhaps a hole could have developed and led to infection within his abdominal cavity, and also could result in the symptoms you describe. Finally, would one also have to consider menigitis (viral vs. bacterial) which could cause a rash, headache, fever, confusion. He's in the hospital, so you should have a definitive diagnosis very soon. I hope he's feeling better soon.

I just read your additional information. Well it sounds like the hospital did not do a very good job at keeping you and your boyfriend informed about his condition. Did they send him home with any medications? And follow up arrangements? Is he feeling better? Remember, when you leave the hospital, that does not end his care. If you feel like his still not well enough to go home, bring him back to the ER, or try to get in touch with his doctor who took care of him in the hospital (but they will usually tell you to return to the ER). You may also want to try another hospital, to get a fresh pair of eyes examining him. Try to find out his final diagnosis and I may be able to help further.
